Google's Solar-Powered Internet Plane Crashed in New Mexico

Google has been researching a solar-cell plane named Solara 50 for the
past few months, testing it for an ambitious Internet connectivity
project. Apparently, though, the plane crashed in the desert on May 1, a
fact that has been kept quiet but is now coming to light as the National
Transportation Safety Board launches an inquiry into the event.

Helios Crash Probed

As much as 75 percent, by weight, of the Helios Prototype solar electric
airplane that crashed into the Pacific Ocean June 26 has been recovered
from the waters several miles west of the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

The Helios Prototype is part of a NASA Dryden Flight Research Center
project to develop unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies to enable
UAVs to perform a variety of long-duration missions including
environmental monitoring and telecommunications relay services. Helios was
built and operated by AeroVironment, Inc. of Monrovia, Calif.

Honest.

But solar sucks so bad that you can't adapt it
to existing, proven, reliable aircraft. Solar is
so troublesome that you need to start from scratch,
design a whole plane around it instead of merely
install electric motors onto existing craft.

Solar doesn't work. Period. Yes, including for the
reasons you just gave.

Hey nerd... you have NO idea about what is really going on here, so at
least research what might be going on.

You, though, are absolutely correct... we should never abandon technology
in its developmental stages, just because of a few failures, but that is
EXACTLY why I posted those articles. I posted them as a way of telling
your fellow nerds what you told me. Shit happens, but we shouldn't kill
something because of a few accidents.

Nothing's perfect, but it's stupid to make fun of something "failing"
that's been around a 100 years and is really one of THE most successful
and important inventions EVER. Oh, and the stuff that powers them... kind
of a big deal too. Where would we be without oil refining and distilling?

Making fun of a plane crash where many people died, JUST to try and prove
a point, is sick, but they don't care, as long as it makes the point that
fossil-fuel use is evil, ESPECIALLY if it makes someone, other than
themselves of course, rich.

I AM going to make fun of something new that NEEDS to be made fun of, but
NOT because I think it's something we shouldn't develop. Solar powered
planes won't do a THING for mankind, inasmuch as transportation (they can
BARELY transport their OWN weight). That DOES need to be made fun of.

I know, I know... baby steps, but the nerds in AGW are not posting these
articles as a way of "cheering" on technology... they post that shit to
try and get a rise out of people, so someone might talk to their lonely
nerdy basement dwelling asses.

Witness the pleas for communication, with their <CIA> (crickets in
advance) and <CAP> (crickets as perdicted) and post-facing topic names
with "hillbilly", as if every person who DOESN'T think what little we
contribute to the world's CO² level, is a hillbilly.

Yeah, tell THAT to the 1000s of scientists who think those nerds are full
of shit and are only dissing fossil-fuels because they have AGENDAS.

They're HOPING that those who think fossil-fuels are not contributing to
what little global warming there is, are going to write a rebuttal and
talk to their pathetically lonely basement-dwelling asses.

They post these articles to say, "Seeeeeee... solar and wind power IS
replacing oil and coal, so neener neener", not really to prop up solar and
wind, but to just try and get under people's skins, so they might talk wif
em poor lonely asses.

Sure, solar-powered planes can do things that we need, but we already HAVE
most of the technology to do what they're touting. They're trying to make
it seem that it's "cutting edge technology" to monitor shipping and
traffic and whatever else the article says.

Your fella (wink, wink) nerds in alt.global-warming post shit about
"fossil-fueled" vehicles and the failures they sometimes have... only the
article they posted wasn't a "failure"... it was pilot error (TWO planes
collided... and that has NOTHING to do with whether they burn gasoline or
use the sun for propulsion).

Why don't YOU go over there and chastise THEM about making fun of
technology that's going to have mishaps, and that we shouldn't throw the
proverbial baby out with the bathwater, JUST because it releases CO²
(which is STILL relatively low).

THAT'S why they post that idiotic shit. They think that just because
something that burns gasoline, "fails" every now and then (which it
didn't... it was an accident, that had NOTHING to do with fossil-fuels or
the plane(s) that burn them), that it's a technology worthy of being
replaced by solar energy.

It's really a stupid topic to argue about, but there it is for all to
