We've looked at the data over the past 30+y. The situation is not
getting any cheerier and is set to accelerate from here on out.
Unfortunately at this point the best we can hope for is to take
the foot of the gas pedal and hit the concrete divered at slightly
less than top speed.
Noone say the experts didnt warn you over and over and over.

On 5 Nov 1965 climate scientists summarized the risks associated with
rising carbon pollution in a report for Lyndon Baines Johnson [...]
[PCAST warned the president the accumulation of CO2 would "almost
certainly cause significant changes" to the environment].
Based on projected world energy requirements, the United Nations Dept
of Economic and Social Affairs (1956) has estimated an amount of fossil fuel
combustion by the year 2000 that with our assumed partitions would give
about a 25% increase in atmospheric CO2, compared to the amount
present during the 19th Century.
A 25% increase from pre-industrial levels would result in about 350 ppm of
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The United Nations underestimated the
growth in fossil fuel combustion, because the actual carbon dioxide
level in 2000 was 370 ppm.

You might think. :)
The easy way to show "something is happening" is take a roughly
homgenised dataset of daily precip for the Med area basically
Portugal to Turkey, Egypt to S France and calculate the
max daily precip for each year since the 19th cent.

Now that GHCN is back online after the big hit by Helene I've updated
the old plot to include 2024:

<Loading Image...>

Every year since ~1980 somewhere in the Med has seen at least 1 day
with 150 mm of precip. Maybe not much compared with hardend Brits,
but it's 6m rainfall where I am.

When [TV weather people] don't mention climate change while reporting
on another set of record high temperatures or unprecedented severe
weather, it is like a news reporter talking about a string of murders
and not mentioning there is a suspect in custody.

The Dana effect is orographic in origin, requiring some adjascent
mountains, a maritime low and the right sort of upper air character to
lock into a static excessive rainfall event, so restricted to onlya few
potential areas, not med wide
Given the slope of the line you wont need to move to Andalusia
to get the same rainfall any day now.

Global Sea Surface Temperature anomalies rose last month, an increase
of about +0.02 deg C from March to May#with a good amount of warming
in the Northern Hemisphere. It was only partly offset by slight
cooling of the surface of the Southern Hemisphere. The most
significant warming took place once again in the North Pacific, with a
surge of about +0.08 deg C. That rise was partly offset by the Indian
Ocean, where the surfaces dropped about -0.05 deg C. The monthly
Global Sea Surface Temperature anomalies are presently at +0.321 deg C.

John Christy thinks the coming El Nino will give us a new temperature
record, since it is superimposed on a warmer baseline than the super
El Nino of 1997-98. I'm not convinced, since we are in the cool phase
of the PDO, which favors weak El Ninos (like 2009-10).
