China energy mix : renewables ~ 10%, oil, coal and gass ~ 80%

That doesn't negate the fact that China is king of solar panels and wind
turbines.
I have been reading China's Global Times (English) for a long time. They
publish a lot of news most Western media don't have access to, or don't
care.
China is the pioneer of R&D in mass production of silicon wafers and the
related solar panels. The main ingredient of solar panels (and
microprocessor chips) is 100% pure silicon, which comes from refining
silica. Silica is the major component of sand. China's Gobi Desert has
unlimited supply of sand. Decades ago China began purifying silica to
100% pure silicon in Gobi Desert. They then used the initial badge of
solar panel as power source to purify more silica into 100% silicon. The
purification process is energy intensive, which includes heating and
cooling of a column of silica repeatedly for a very long time. The
heating and cooling will induce melting and re-crystallization to expel
impurities. That's how they purify silica into 100% silicon. Gobi Desert
has unlimited supply of sand and sun to turn its silicon purifying
factories into perpetual solar panel and silicon wafer production machines.
China is king of wind turbines because China dominates the production of
the rare-earth metal 'neodymium', which is very important in making
powerful magnets. Therefore China can mass produce the most powerful
electric motors for EVs, and electric generators for wind turbines.
