The storm that sank the “Bayesian,” a luxury yacht anchored off the Sicily
coast, was sudden, violent and deadly — and scientists say it may be a warning
of what’s to come as global warming fuels more extreme weather in the
Mediterranean.

climate change is leading to more intense storms, some of which are fueled by
warm ocean water.

The Mediterranean region is on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Dubbed a
climate change hot spot, it’s warming around 20% faster than the global
average. And the toll is clear in the extreme weather the region is
experiencing, from brutal rolling heat waves to ferocious storms bringing
catastrophic flooding.

“Global warming — and specifically warming of the Mediterranean Sea — is quite
likely to lead to an intensification of a number of potentially dangerous
weather systems in that region,” Inness said.

Another sorry tale.
Maybe causing some ripples in monied circles where everyone
thinks they can "obviously" buy their way out of any climate crunch
their business activities in the past 70 years may have caused.

The yatch company advertised its craft as "unsinkable".
But with the E Med around +3C over normal for most of the past 2y
the weather increasingly is throwing up water spouts which I understand
is what took out the Bayesian. The boat company didnt wargame that.

While most of souls (15/22) were rescued at least 5 went down with the boat
incl software billionaire Mike Lynch.
The boat was in his wife's name. She was one of those rescued.
Let the lawsuits and recriminations commence!
