NOAA seems to be wounded from the hit in Ashville that took out
a big data center. But the surge model has produced its first maps
and W coast Fla looks set to take a repeat of Helene with 12ft surges
and associated coastal flooding predicted along 1/3 of the coast, tapering
off to only 2-4ft at Chokoloskee and the Keys and 1-3ft from Indian Pass to
Suwannee.

Some met people are warning later processing could find a larger body
of water is being pushed ahead of the now cat2 hurricane.

We can hope people in the area ordered to evac will take some notice this
time around.

Deadliest atlantic hurricane : 1780 22,000-27,500 casualties.
"On October 19, strong winds and high tides were reported in the British
province of East Florida (the northeastern portion of present-day
Florida). NOAA employees, Christopher W. Landsea and Al Sandrik write
that it is possible the hurricane passed much closer to the province
than previously thought. Another possibility considered was an extension
to a hurricane in the western Caribbean Sea. Because of lack of data,
the exact track of the Great Hurricane is unknown."
