Major US city lawmakers propose law to ban common household item: 'These are very high-emissions devices'

City council members in Baltimore, Maryland, voted to outlaw gas-powered
leaf blowers.

The new ban will reduce air and noise pollution in local neighborhoods as
these items of lawn care equipment are phased out citywide.

As CBS News reported, Councilmember Ryan Dorsey introduced the leaf blower
ban to address localized pollution. Councilmember Lisa Rodvien previously
proposed an Anne Arundel County leaf blower ban due to the nuisance,
health, and environmental risks.

"Four to 5% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the United States come from
gas-powered lawn equipment," Rodvien said. "These are very high-emissions
devices."

Fortunately, the Baltimore City Council agreed and voted 10-5 to ban the
polluting equipment.

This vote follows a similar decision in Annapolis, Maryland, where a gas
leaf-blower ban goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2025.

There is a refreshing sustainability trend toward banning the machines
across the U.S. through city and statewide bans. More than 100 cities,
including Portland, Oregon, have already banned them.

In Baltimore, gas leaf blowers are gradually being phased out of city
life.

The city and its contractors will not be allowed to use them after Dec.
15, 2024. However, local residents and landscaping companies can continue
using them between mid-October and mid-December in 2025 and 2026, but not
after that.

This vote is a massive win for Baltimore because, as the National Audubon
Society pointed out, gas-powered leaf blowers release four times more
pollution than commercial lawnmowers and as much pollution as driving a
car 1,100 miles.

They also create obnoxious noise pollution and have been linked to a wide
range of health problems, including cancer, reproductive harm, asthma, and
mental health damage.

"Given the significant and harmful pollution generated by gas-powered leaf
blowers and the high prevalence of asthma and other respiratory illnesses
in Baltimore, I'm glad the city is taking action to protect our lungs and
our ears," Maryland PIRG Senior Adviser Emily Scarr said. "It doesn't make
sense to keep using these health-harming, pollution-spewing machines when
cleaner, quieter options are readily available."

"Thank you to everybody who supported and advocated for this,"
Councilmember Dorsey said. "It's a good day for the environment, health,
and peace of mind."

I hate 'em. I've given up on the planet but they make too much noise
for no good purpose. Use a broom, or let the leaves lie where they
fall, or chop them up when you mow the lawn.

Global warming was invented by Nixon's conservative Jews in the early '70s.
It's a big hoax designed to slander oil, gas and coal companies and
advance communist bullshit like EVs, nuclear, wind and solar power that
only comes from China until we figure out how to do it too.
We won't be outsmarted by the Chinese Commies and duped into purchasing

Hard to imagine it more powerful than my corded blowers and does cost

Also reminded that new neighbor that has three quarter acre lot but only
cuts less than a quarter acre started with an electric mower but now has

Did you notice that it is using 80V lithium battery packs? 80V is quite
close to household 110V rms AC. Those Lithium battery packs have many
times higher amperage output that your regular 15A household AC outlet.
It may not be a good choice as power source for a lawnmower for a big
lawn because of the small size of the battery packs.

I have this 80V leaf blower which I can use to blow powdery snow off the
windshield and roof of my car:

I am planning to buy this 80V snow shovel this winter:

How would they react to an elctric blower powered by a portable
generator ? I often use my 700 watt generator to power my electric pole
saw as where I use it is past the limit of my 100 foot dropcord.

I would much rather use about 20 feet of electric cord and the small
generator in my wagon towed by my gas lawn tractor than drag out many
feet of wire plugged into the house. That generator smokes very badly
for about 10 minuites as it warms up. They do that even when new. They
are a 2 cycle engine.

I've used a cheap Japanese electric for 15y. I was pleasantly surprised
at the upgrades made over an old 2-strike I'd used for 50y before that.
Light man maneoverable you dont even need to use the catcher because
it smashes the grass so hard it gets turned to powder most of the time
and just sits invisibly on the lawn after mowing. Starts every time
instantly I had a habit of giving the lawns a quick trim every couple
of days. It only takes a few mins for my 800m2 property with 2 street
frontages.

Yes, I live in Baltimore, well, Baltimore County which is on 3 sides of
Baltimore City, and when I read this in local news, I was jealous. The
City in terms of government is like a separate county. (3 counties in
Maryland came from the land Lord Baltimore was put in charge of, by the
king.)

My n'hood gets its clippings blown every time the "landscaping" company
comes to mow the grass in the common** areas. I'm often in my office
when this happens and I'm forced out until they get done.

(90% of the grass surrounds individual townhouses and it gets mowed
whenever the owner or someone he hires does it. I don't remember hearing
blowers. I have a Black and Decker corded blower and a 100' extension
cord. I got the blower out of a dumpster at Black and Decker. Never
used it. Even though the motor only goes one direction, it's
mechanically reversible and will suck up and pulverize dry leaves, and
put them in the included bag. I don't do that either.)

Just look at Project 2025. Or any rational analysis of the American
political parties and their stances.

But that aside, it is pretty clear that people like you simply should not
be allowed to make your own choices. You are a hazard to yourself and
others. You probably voted for the Orange Monster (and probably more than
once). That in and of itself shows you're not competent to be in the
